fall is here!

Dear Parents,
We have been busy during the last week or so learning about Clifford the Big Red Dog, and we had a birthday party for him...we also read the book Bread and Honey and of course, had to eat bread and honey! We have been wrapping up our activities regarding the color red and circles and have worked hard on name recognition (their own, as well as friends). Also, we have worked hard on numerous math skills activities such as counting objects, sequencing, matching, and patterning.Last week we read the book The Little Red Hen and sequenced the story by using wheat stalks, flour, bread dough, and bread....and ate yummy biscuits after our activity. This week we will paint fall leaves and introduce squares and the color orange. We will begin our fall activities as well as learn about our bodies. In addition, we will talk about homes and families as we conclude the month of September theme studies. Remember that the sign up list for conferences is on the classroom door (Monday, Oct. 11) and Canterbury Fair is approaching, so turn in your shields! We could still use writing center supplies if anyone can help. Thanks everybody! Kathy McRae

Christ Church School Sunday :: October 3

We hope you make plans to join all of us for Christ Church School Sunday this Sunday, October 3.

CCS is the primary ministry of Christ Church and the parishoners always appreciate seeing "their" students. At the 11 a.m. service the church will offer prayers for the school and will recognize the faculty, staff, school board, but most importantly our students. Upper School students will also sing.

Following we will have cake and fellowship in the Parish Hall. It is a lovely morning and we hope you will be there.

Students are encouraged to wear their Chapel uniforms.

Family Shields

Family Shields on display at Canterbury Faire 2009

Canterbury Faire is just around the corner (October 23!). We are asking each family to help with decorations by designing their own family coat of arms on the shield provided. During medieval battles, knights would put their family coat of arms on their shields so they could easily be identified as friend or foe on the battlefield. Have fun with it and make this a family project to do together with your children. If you still have your shield from last year, please send back so we can display the shields for others to view.

Shields will go home with students Friday. Keep in mind that this project is per family, not per student.

Please have the project completed and returned to school no later than Monday, October 18, so we can display them on the that week. On the day of the Faire they will be displayed outside on a castle wall to add to the medieval theme of the event.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

young learners

Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! I know a couple of our little ones were sick, and I'm sorry about that but glad they are better. We are busy in the classroom working on math skills and we have some some bright little cookies! This group loves to play and pretend and it is interesting to say the least to hear the creativity that comes out during center time. We were going to have our Teddy Bear picnic this Friday; however, due to the weather, the short week, and my sore back, we will do that next Friday. Your child (children) will need a sack lunch and drink that day, and they can bring their favorite teddy bear. Please make sure their names are on their bear and lunch. Tomorrow, we will make circle pizzas. I know it may seem that we work on the same concepts over and over, but at this age children need that reinforcement for concepts to adhere to the brain. This is such an important year for basic knowledge and socialization. Next week we will focus on Clifford, the Big Red Dog......we will have a birthday party for him, and he is turning three, of course! Today we read the book The Napping House and did a project involving recall and sequencing. It's a great rainy day book.
We are trying to replenish our writing center. We have quite a few children who really enjoy this activity and it's an important center because they are working on several skills. We need scrap paper, stamps, stickers, envelopes, etc. .....anything you might have at home, please don't go out and spend money on this. Also we could use magazines including women's magazines that have pictures of people and food. Thank you all for your help and support!
